ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The function of the Mohonk Archives is to continuously identify, collect, preserve, document, and interpret the history of the Mohonk Mountain House business, from its founding in 1869 through the present. The Assistant Archivist assists the Archivist in these efforts, with primary emphasis on duties related to cataloging, filing, and indexing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists the Archivist with various duties as they are assigned, primarily organizing, filing, cataloging, and indexing of archival documents and photographs.
Does research as needed to answer questions from management, staff, and guests regarding the history of Mohonk, in accordance with the Archives policies regarding the confidentiality of various materials. Functions as Acting Archivist for the Archivist as needed.
ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Archival Studies (or in Library Science with some additional courses in Archival records management) required.
Prior work experience emphasizing the skills of cataloging and indexing highly desirable.
Ability to understand the business needs of the corporation and carry out the Archives Mission Statement in practice.
Ability to detect the sensitivity or confidentiality of information in archival materials and internal communications, and to assess the appropriateness of various requests for information.
Strong computer background required, with proficiency in Access and WORD. Additionally, knowledge of Publisher, Photoshop, Excel, and Power Point highly desirable.
Ability to communicate clearly, in a professional and courteous manner, using written and spoken English.
Must be very well organized and very detail-oriented.
Must have excellent, clear, concise writing skills.
Must be able to work independently without close supervision, and act in decision-making capacity.
Familiarity with the Mohonk environs; i.e. the ridge and hiking trails, the House, etc. highly desirable. Must be able to lift, maneuver, and carry boxes of archival materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

Will handle, transport and process merchandise within the distribution center. Ship/receive contents of trailers as they arrive and depart. Load/unload, move, sort, stack and distribute trailer contents. Perform manual computer entry of shipment information. Must be able to stand 10 hours with scheduled breaks and must be able to move up to 40lbs. on a frequent basis. Sojourner Truth Library ~ Head of Information Systems
SUNY New Paltz seeks a creative, energetic, and collegial individual to serve as Head of Information Systems to provide leadership for the planning, expansion, and delivery of innovative library services in support of the learning, teaching, and research mission of the College. This position is responsible for the overall direction, administration, and management of all library systems and information technologies. Specifically, the incumbent will serve as system administrator for the library's integrated system (Aleph), enhance and monitor the library's web site, supervise computer staff in equipment maintenance, oversee the applications for interlibrary loan and electronic reserves, implement new initiatives to streamline operations and improve existing services, and provide expertise in the areas of emerging technologies. The College is currently embarking on a major library renovation and revitalization project. The incumbent will have the opportunity to play a key role in planning and developing a new Information Commons to be part of the library renovation, scheduled for completion in 2012.
Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the incumbent will train and supervise computer support staff in installing and maintaining library hardware and software, work collaboratively with library colleagues in planning and promoting new technologies, build partnerships with other IT staff on campus, communicate with vendors, and represent the library effectively on campus- and SUNY-wide technological initiatives. He or she will also participate in reference service and the library liaison program as a member of the Library Faculty.
This is a two-year appointment, renewable, tenure track position, which will be filled at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian level depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is commensurable with experience and qualifications.
Qualifications:
ALA accredited master's degree in library/information science.
Two or more years of professional experience, preferably in an academic library setting.- Demonstrated experience in managing integrated library systems (preferably Aleph 500) and complex technological projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Windows & UNIX operating systems and common scripting languages (e.g., HTML, PHP, JavaScript, etc.)
- Knowledge of current library technologies, applications, utility tools, standards, and best practices.
- Understanding of bibliographic record structures and library workflows.
- Supervisory experience and the ability to work and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) in a team-based and user-centered environment.
- Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to prioritize and to meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to move about through a three-floor building and to handle the tools of the trade, such as keyboard and computers.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. (U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident).
